Sin. Secrets. Shame. Solitude. "Worthy" explores these themes via the life of a 15-year-old rape victim in World War II outport Newfoundland while this island was still a dominion of Great Britain and while U-boats circled like hawks in the nearby North Atlantic ocean. "Worthy" is a "detailed and convincing portrait of a conflicted Newfoundland family in the 1940s, set in a rugged, salty and storm-lashed setting that comes clearly to the senses," wrote one reviewer. "Events unfold with satisfying suspense and a good grasp of how and when to add fresh complications to the mix."
Worthy A Novel Bobbie Smith Books
The storyline draws the reader in from the first page. A story is there waiting to be read from start to finish. Details of life both in St. John's and in the out port of Fox Harbour are an essential element to making this an enjoyable page turner. While the events take place in and around 1942 the reference to Newfoundland as a province seems out of place as does use of the pain scale of 0-10. These small details in no way diminish the, pleasure of read d ing this wonderful book. Perhaps a storyline for a period movie is here waiting to be undertaken.Product details

Worthy A Novel Bobbie Smith Books Reviews
This book captured me from the beginning. It constantly moved forward with a story line that compelled you to continue reading. It gives you a glimpse of small community life not that long ago with issues that are still prevalent in today's society.
You know when words on a page move you to tears for the hero and anger for the villain, that those words have served their purpose. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Worthy. Such a heartbreaking and engaging story.
I couldn't wait to turn the pages, but didn't want it to end.
Loved it!
